Israel struck an elementary school in Iran.
Nearly 60 children died as a result of the incident.
Israel launched a missile strike on a girls' school in the city of Minab in southern Iran. According to the Mehr news agency and local officials, the attack resulted in the deaths of at least 57 children, with another 48 injured to varying degrees.
Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing at the scene, with efforts underway to find those trapped under the rubble.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi commented on the attack and released video footage showing the aftermath of the strike. He emphasized that the "crimes committed against the Iranian people will not go unanswered."
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh also called the attack an "open crime" and urged the UN Security Council to take immediate action.
According to a report by Al Jazeera correspondent Muhammad Vall from Tehran, the strike on the educational institution casts doubt on statements from the US and Israel that "only military targets are being hit."
