Zelensky responded to Russia's ceasefire proposal.
The ceasefire proposal on the eve of May 9 was put forward during a telephone conversation between Trump and Putin.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine supports a long-term, not short-term, ceasefire, as reported. He emphasized the need not to limit it to "a few hours of security" for the Victory Day parade in Moscow.
In his statement, Zelenskyy said that his representatives have been instructed to contact the U.S. President's team to study the specific details of the truce proposal put forward by Russia.
According to him, it will be clarified whether this concerns short-term security measures or a broader agreement is intended.
"Our proposal is a long-term ceasefire, ensuring reliable safety for the population and achieving lasting peace. Ukraine is ready to work in any acceptable and effective format on this path," he said.
Earlier, it was reported that Vladimir Putin proposed declaring a temporary truce during the Victory Day period during a telephone conversation with Donald Trump.
According to Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, the conversation was initiated by Russia. Trump later stated that he himself had put forward the idea of this "small truce."
For reference, the last ceasefire on the front was declared in April 2026 on the occasion of Easter.
