The US has reinstated sanctions on Russian oil.

Against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East, a temporary permission for Russian oil trade was granted. This relief lost its force on April 11.

The US has reinstated sanctions on Russian oil.

The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump will end the temporary sanctions relief on Russian oil and oil products. This was reported by The Moscow Times, citing Bloomberg.

It is reported that these measures, which allowed the legal sale of oil loaded onto ships until March 12, 2026, expired on April 11. This relief was introduced due to tensions in energy markets against the backdrop of the war in the Middle East.

In particular, Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz led to a reduction in global oil exports by nearly 13 million barrels per day and prices rising above $100. Under these circumstances, the White House temporarily eased some restrictions on Russian and Iranian oil with the aim of increasing supply in the global market.

According to The New York Times, the short-term permission to sell Iranian oil expires on April 19. The U.S. Treasury Department has stated that this deadline will also not be extended.

Meanwhile, according to a report by the International Energy Agency, Russia's revenue from oil and oil product exports reached $19 billion in March 2026. This is $9.3 billion more than in February and $4.8 billion more than the same period last year.

The report notes that oil exports from Russia increased by 0.27 million barrels per day to 4.6 million barrels. Exports of oil products increased by 0.05 million barrels per day to 2.5 million barrels. As a result, the total export volume rose to 7.1 million barrels per day.

Furthermore, in March, Russia's oil production volume increased by 0.29 million barrels per day to 8.96 million barrels. Although this figure is 0.61 million barrels below the quota set within OPEC+, it is emphasized that the total production volume of liquid hydrocarbons reached 10.32 million barrels per day.
