"Chemical prophylaxis measures are being implemented."
The Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee responded to reports about the outbreak of meningitis among children.

In 2026, due to an increase in cases of meningococcal infection among the population in Uzbekistan, additional measures are being taken to prevent the spread of the disease. This was reported by the press service of the Sanitary and Epidemiological Committee in a statement.
According to the report, to prevent the widespread spread of this infection among children, 8,024 doses of vaccine were purchased, and 4,862 citizens who had contact with patients were covered by vaccination. For citizens who have medical contraindications to vaccination and have been in contact with patients, chemoprophylaxis measures are being carried out under the supervision of doctors.
In the first quarter of 2026, 174 cases of meningococcal infection were registered in Uzbekistan, of which 168 were children under the age of 14. According to the dynamics of the disease, a 14% decrease was observed in April compared to March.
It is noted that meningitis is an inflammation of the membranes of the brain and spinal cord, often caused by bacteria or viruses, and is considered dangerous due to its rapid development.
As a preventive measure, the population is recommended to get vaccinated in a timely manner, observe personal hygiene rules, immediately consult a doctor if symptoms of the disease appear, and take precautions in public places.
Additionally, citizens traveling for the "Hajj" and "Umrah" pilgrimages are advised to get vaccinated against meningococcal infection before the trip and to temporarily limit participation in mass events after returning from the journey.
