Vladimir Putin has begun his official visit to Beijing at the invitation of the President of the People's Republic of China. The visit coincides with the 25th anniversary of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness, Friendship, and Cooperation between Russia and China. This was reported by RIA Novosti in a report.
It is reported that Putin was greeted at the airport by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi. He is mentioned as one of the most prominent politicians in China's political system, second only to President Xi Jinping.
According to official information, the main working program of the visit is scheduled for Wednesday, May 20. The program will begin with a ceremonial welcome of the Russian delegation at the central square in Beijing.
After that, high-level negotiations between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping will be held at the Great Hall of the People.
The parties are expected to sign a joint statement on further strengthening comprehensive partnership and strategic cooperation. Additionally, nearly 40 documents are planned to be signed, covering cooperation in industry, trade, transport, construction, nuclear energy, education, the film industry, and between news agencies.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the leaders are expected to make a statement to the media. That evening, Putin and Xi Jinping will participate in the opening ceremony of the years of Russia-China cooperation in the field of education.
Putin will also discuss trade and economic issues with Chinese Premier Li Qiang.
The visit program will conclude with an official banquet hosted by Xi Jinping and an informal tea conversation between the leaders. According to the Kremlin, during this informal meeting, the heads of state will discuss pressing issues on the international agenda.
It is worth recalling that on May 13-15, U.S. President Donald Trump also made an official visit to Beijing and held negotiations with Xi Jinping.
