France has banned Israel's National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from entering the country. This was caused by his mocking actions towards activists of the "Global Sumud Flotilla". Al Jazeera reported this.
According to French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot, the decision was made following Ben-Gvir's display of "vile treatment" towards the flotilla participants — citizens of France and Europe.
"From today, Itamar Ben-Gvir is banned from entering French territory," Barrot wrote.
Earlier, Ben-Gvir posted a video on social networks showing him laughing at activists blindfolded, handcuffed, and kneeling at the port of Ashdod. The Israeli navy had stopped flotilla ships in international waters near Cyprus this week and detained nearly 430 people.
Following images showing activists being dragged along the floor, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Canada, and Spain summoned Israeli ambassadors to condemn the incident.
Barrot stated that the threat and violence against French citizens is intolerable and called on the European Union to impose sanctions against Ben-Gvir.
Earlier, organizers of the "Global Sumud Flotilla" reported that activists released from Israeli custody had reported at least 15 cases of sexual violence. These allegedly include degrading searches, sexual humiliation, and rape.
The UN has expressed serious concern over these reports. The Israeli prison service has denied all accusations, calling them "false and baseless."
