A proposal has been made to grant Zelensky and his family lifelong state protection.

According to the document, some high-ranking officials who served during the period of martial law may also be granted state protection.

A proposal has been made to grant Zelensky and his family lifelong state protection.

A draft law providing for lifelong state protection for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and his family members has been submitted to the Verkhovna Rada. This is stated in the document published on the official website of the Ukrainian parliament, as reported.

One of the authors of the draft law is Roman Kostenko, secretary of the Ukrainian parliament's Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence.

According to the document, it is proposed that family members living with or accompanying the President be provided with lifelong state protection even after the end of his term of office, with the exception of the President's removal from office through impeachment.

The draft law also provides for state protection for members of the General Staff and the National Security and Defense Council who performed their duties during martial law.

In connection with this proposal, it is also envisaged to increase the total number of employees of the Ukrainian State Security Department to 5,500.

Martial law was introduced in Ukraine on February 24, 2022, and has been extended several times since then. Zelensky's presidential term officially ended on May 20, 2024. Ukrainian officials have stated that regular presidential elections cannot be held while martial law remains in effect.
