The Cinematography Agency will be abolished: the film sector will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture

The tasks of managing the cinema sector, financing, and film production in Uzbekistan will be separated, and a new system will be introduced. The Cinematography Agency will be abolished, and the authority to conduct state policy in the cinema sector will be transferred to the Ministry of Culture.

A Department of Cinematic Art will be established at the Ministry. The status of its head will be equated to that of a deputy minister. Officials have been tasked with establishing the department's activities and abolishing the Cinematography Agency and the organizations within its system within one month.

The "O'zbekfilm" state institution will be abolished, and a new "O'zbekfilm" national film company operating on the basis of a modern business model will be established.

The new company will serve as a support center and main operator in developing the national cinema brand and shaping a modern film industry.

The film company will not directly produce films. Film creation will be fully transferred to the private sector. "O'zbekfilm" will engage in selecting and financing film projects, promoting and distributing films, as well as bringing them to international markets and festivals.

These changes are aimed at uniting the processes from film production to delivering it to the audience into a single system. The new national film company has been tasked with establishing its activities within one week. In financing films, the practice of state commissioning will be transitioned to a system of support based on subsidies.

"From now on, the state will not be the commissioner of a film but a reliable partner of creators and the private sector," said the President.

In the new system, priority will be given to the creative process and its requirements rather than technical specifications. The task has been set to introduce the new financing mechanism within one month.

Starting next year, appropriate funds will be allocated from the budget annually based on the request of the "O'zbekfilm" national film company.
