Eldor Shomurodov's mentor is being considered as one of the main candidates for the head coach position of the Italian national team.

Changes have been made to the coaching staff of the Italian national team, which missed out on a World Cup berth, as reported by RomaPress — an independent news portal specializing in football.

 

Interestingly, 74-year-old Claudio Ranieri had declined an offer to manage the Italian national team in the summer of 2025. At that time, he was working as a senior advisor at "Roma." In April 2026, the specialist left the Rome club and is currently not working with any team.

 

"I turned down the offer from the Italian national team because I didn't want to leave my role at 'Roma' at that time. Now, I have no obligations, so this option can be considered," said Claudio Ranieri in a comment to Sky Sports.

 

"I don't know. If they call you, simply saying 'yes' is enough," said Claudio Ranieri.

 

Let us recall that Claudio Ranieri is known as an experienced specialist who has led Italy's leading clubs such as "Juventus," "Inter," and "Roma," as well as England's "Leicester City" to a historic championship during his career. His vast experience could be a crucial factor for the Italian national team, which is currently in a difficult situation.

 

For reference, Ranieri worked at "Roma" during the 2024/25 season, also mentoring Eldor Shomurodov, the captain of the Uzbekistan national team. That season, the Uzbek striker scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists, demonstrating effective play.
