President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres within the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit taking place in Bishkek.

 

 

At the beginning of the meeting, António Guterres congratulated Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the people of Uzbekistan on the 35th anniversary of the country’s independence, wishing them peace, prosperity, and progress.

 

 

During the negotiations, issues of further expanding the multifaceted cooperation between Uzbekistan, the UN, and its institutions were discussed.

 

 

Shavkat Mirziyoyev highly appreciated António Guterres’s contribution to the development of Uzbekistan-UN relations and expressed his support for the initiatives aimed at reforming the UN system.

 

It was noted with satisfaction that active dialogue and mutual visits, as well as Uzbekistan’s expanding participation in the activities of the UN’s elected bodies, are growing. In recent years, 15 resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted at the initiative of our country.

 

The UN Secretary-General praised Uzbekistan’s achievements in implementing the Sustainable Development Goals. Readiness was expressed to further intensify cooperation in this direction.

 

During the meeting, an exchange of views took place on pressing issues on the international and regional agenda. The plan for upcoming joint events was also reviewed.
