Russia struck the train: senior European officials were near the area

On September 13, Russian troops struck a passenger train locomotive with a drone as it was moving a few kilometers from the Polish border. No one was injured in the attack.

 

According to Ukrainian Railways, the train crew had been warned in advance about the threat of an attack. The train was stopped and passengers were prepared for evacuation.

 

According to Der Spiegel, near the train that was attacked there was also a special railway train traveling from Ukraine to Poland. On board were former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and one of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's close advisers, Günter Sautter.

 

After the danger had passed, the trains resumed movement.

 

Sweden's former prime minister Carl Bildt, who was also returning from Ukraine by rail, posted on the social network X a video showing the attack near the Polish border.

 

“It was not our train, it was the train that passed the border crossing point a few minutes after us,” Bildt wrote.

 

He emphasized that the security system put in place on Ukrainian Railways helped prevent casualties.

 

On September 11–12, the YES (Yalta European Strategy) conference was held in Kyiv. A number of European politicians also took part in it.

 

After the drone attacked the train and a gas station near the Ukraine-Poland border, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha called on European countries to increase sanctions pressure on Russia.

 

“Russian barbarians are already on your doorstep, dear partners,” Sybiha said.
