Former South Korean president sentenced to life imprisonment.
U was found guilty in the case related to the imposition of martial law in 2024.

A South Korean court has found former President Yoon Suk Yeol guilty of orchestrating a coup d'état in connection with the declaration of martial law at the end of 2024 and sentenced him to life imprisonment. This was reported by the Yonhap news agency.
It is reported that on the evening of December 3, 2024, Yoon Suk Yeol addressed the nation, emphasizing the need to protect the Republic of Korea from the threat of North Korea and declared a state of military emergency in the country.
However, approximately 150 minutes after the president's speech, during an emergency session of parliament, lawmakers voted to repeal the martial law, rejecting this decision.
On December 6, the first attempt to initiate impeachment proceedings against the president was launched by parliament but ended unsuccessfully. A week later, on December 14, a second vote resulted in the impeachment being confirmed, leading to Yoon Suk Yeol's removal from office and subsequent prosecution.
