The European Union is preparing for fuel shortages: military reserves may be used
The European Commissioner emphasized the importance of rapidly increasing fuel production and building necessary reserves in crisis conditions.

The European Union is considering the possibility of using military reserves to ensure the operation of oil refineries and prevent fuel shortages in the event of a possible military conflict. This was reported by the European Commissioner for Defence and Space, Andrius Kubilius.
According to him, in the event of an attack on one of the EU member states, large reserves of fuel may be needed. The exact volume of military reserves is not disclosed.
According to Kubilius, supporting oil refineries is important for stabilizing fuel prices, ensuring European security, and maintaining the uninterrupted functioning of the economy.
The European Commissioner plans to discuss this issue with the North Atlantic Council and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
According to Kubilius, in peacetime, fuel consumption for military needs accounts for approximately 8 percent of the total volume. In the event of a military crisis, this figure could increase significantly. Therefore, the European Union aims to create a system that, while ensuring sufficient aviation fuel in peacetime, would also allow for a rapid increase in fuel production and the formation of adequate reserves in the conditions of a military crisis.
