Google Vice President: Uzbekistan is opening new opportunities for global technologies
Google's Vice President emphasized that reforms in the field of personal data protection in Uzbekistan have paved the way for the launch of Google Pay in the country.

Google’s Vice President for Government Relations and Public Policy in Emerging Markets, Doron Avni, emphasized that the reforms implemented in Uzbekistan in the field of personal data processing have opened new opportunities for global technologies to enter the country’s market.

According to a statement on Doron Avni’s LinkedIn page, at the beginning of this year Uzbekistan updated its approach to personal data protection. Instead of strict data localization, a flexible and balanced approach was chosen. In his view, the practical result of these changes was not long in coming — Google Pay launched in Uzbekistan.
“When governments create rules that are clear in advance and interoperable with global systems, global technologies enter quickly as well,” he wrote.
In his post, Doron Avni also highlighted that the launch of Google Pay in Uzbekistan was announced during the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio to the country and the C5+1 ministerial summit in Samarkand. He emphasized that this demonstrates the shared aspiration of Uzbekistan and the United States to accelerate digital modernization.
“Uzbekistan is demonstrating in practice that pragmatic policy can open the way to new opportunities,” wrote the Google Vice President.
For information: In September of this year, Saida Mirziyoyeva met with Google Vice President Karan Bhatia in New York to discuss issues of expanding technological cooperation.
“In recent years, we have improved legislation in the field of personal data processing and digital payments. As a result, a broad path is opening up in Uzbekistan for the free use of international payment systems,” said the Head of the Presidential Administration.
On October 27 of this year, it was announced that Google Pay and Apple Pay had been fully launched in Uzbekistan.
